What happens to the water
used to wash the sugar beet?
It is completely purified (usually in a two-stage biological
process) and discharged in compliance with the prescribed threshold
values. |
Is the water requirement
met from company-owned wells or the water works and is water
recycled?
Apart from the water used to cool the turbines in the power
plant, only the water that is brought into the factory in the
sugar beet is used in the sugar production process. Sugar beet
is 75 % water. The water is purified in the factory and recycled. |
 |
Is chemistry used to clean
the sugar beet and dispose of dirty water?
Lime milk is added to the water that is used to transport and
clean the sugar beet, in order to avoid unpleasant smells, for
example. |
